Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired By The Warriors

top

Mortal Kombat, one of the premier ‘fighter’ video games gets a large dose of house and dubstep from some of the premier producers in our industry. Skrillex, Congorock, JFK from MSTRKRFT, Harvard Bass, Felix Cartal, LA Riots and many others have created a ‘theme’ song for each of the characters in the new soundtrack for Mortal Kombat 9 (their latest installment of the series, due to hit stores everywhere April 21st). Not only is this a unique idea from NetherRealm Studios (creator of Mortal Kombat), but it adds value for EDM fans…they can now listen to some solid music while killing their friends in a virtual world. FINISH HIM! Out of this package Skrillex’s “Reptile’s Theme” is my favorite not only because it goes the hardest out of all the tracks, but the distortions are crazy around the 2:02 mark.

NOTE: The Best Buy Edition has tracks created by house juggernaut’s Laidback Luke and Wolfgang Gartner. Do not worry, you will see them up on Dancing Astronaut shortly!

each song has it’s own uniqueness to it, but they all have a quality that make them the same
    super cool!

Wow. Incredible. These tracks all have great presence, and fit perfectly for all the characters. I just kept imaging scenes from Mortal Kombat with the songs and it was awesome.

The only thing I would criticize on is Congorock’s drop. When it hits at around 1:01, it actually hurt my ears. Just a really harsh frequency hitting through that wasn’t very pleasurable to listen to. Musically it was great, and every other part of the track sounded awesome. Just that one part though.

Ok. I found a win quote “You’re not even funny”, check out 1:44 on Skrillex one. It’s probably him trying to be funny.
