Blow Your Head Vol. 2: Dave Nada pres. Moombahton

For the second edition of Mad Decent’s Blow Your Head, Dave Nada, of Nadastrom fame, presents the fastest growing EDM genre: Moombahton. To be honest, a feature on Moombahton is long overdue here at Dancing Astronaut. Nada himself created the genre a senior skip day party for his cousin a few years back. When Nada arrived for his DJ set, he found a crowd of high school seniors dancing to Reggaeton beats. Not wanting to upset the mood, Nada started off his set by slowing down Afrojack’s remix of Moombah to the BPM of Reggaeton, around 110 BPM. The track sounded so good slowed down, Nada went back to his studio shortly afterwards, had a muck around, and Moomahton was born. Originally a fusion of dutch house with reggaeton beats and BPM, the genre has exploded all over the world and now contains elements of dubstep, electro, and even progressive house. I myself was fortunate enough to catch a Moombahton set from Nadastrom in Miami and it blew me away.

In honor of the quickly increasing popularity of Moombahton, Nada has released this compilation of ten tracks to act as an introduction for new fans to the genre. Here are a few highlights from the release, with a special present at the end.

Diplo & Dillon Francis – Que Que feat. Maluca (Original Mix)

Datsik – Firepower (Munchi Remix)

Dillon Francis – Masta Blasta (Original Mix)

Dillon Francis has quickly become my favorite of all the Moombahton producers. This next track isn’t on the release but Dillon gave away the track for free on his soundcloud and it’s one of my favorite tunes of the year so far.
