David Guetta – Nothing But The Beat (Official Movie Trailer)

“My drug is the connection with the people” – David Guetta

David Guetta’s latest album, Nothing But The Beat, hits the stores on August 30th in North America. Tracks such as “Lunar” and “Sunshine” will be featured on it, as well as others from top DJs like Avicii and Afrojack. There have been some rumblings about the bridge made between house culture and “urban” culture and if Guetta himself has been “selling out.” After watching this trailer, we can safely tell you to shut your mouths. This man may single-handedly be the reason for house arriving to the forefront of pop culture, and it is time we gave him due credit.

I never looked at it that way.. This whole time I’ve been thinking to myself that Guetta was definitely a sellout after doing so many of those craptastic hybrid mutant rap and techno junk.

Now, he’s still a sellout, but I have a little more respect for him after thinking of what he did for the genre. He may not make the best songs (I’ve listened to lunar a lot, I don’t like it), but by associating himself with the ‘pop stars’, he’s caught the ears of millions of people, many of whom would otherwise not give the genre the time of day.

…and for that, Guetta, I salute you. Your songs still suck, though.

People will continue to slam Guetta for being a “sell out” or going “mainstream” but when you’re good at what you do, everyone wants a piece of you. When you’re a musician you want your music to reach as much ears as possible and that is just what David has done. Artists from other genres like what he’s done and want to work with him, conversely he sees the chance to work with heavyweights of other genres of music so it goes both ways. Artists like Nicki Minaj, Usher et al are at the moment top of R & B, Pop and Hip-hop so I can’t fault Guetta for collaborating with them. Music history is defined by getting a breakthrough via other genres. Hip-hop came into the mainstream consciouness really only after Run DMC did Walk This Way with Aerosmith. House music has been gaining more publicity because Guetta is featuring already established players from other music into his tunes. Don’t hate on him and call him a sellout, rather praise him for opening up house music to the world. Without this huge exposure you could as well not have some of the big festivals like EDC, Ultra or Electric Zoo because not enough people would be into house music but they are and those festivals got bigger in huge part thanks to David Guetta.
