Swedish House Mafia sells out Madison Square Garden in 9 minutes, no official sale to take place (updated)
Well, we had our own bets going on how long it would take Swedish House Mafia to sell out MSG, and we’ve just received official word that the event is indeed sold out — one day before the tickets were supposed to officially go on sale. We’re told that Ticketmaster’s website was visited by over 15,000 people in the first minute, and that the entire event sold out in under 40 nine minutes. After the incredible demand for the Facebook presale that started today, organizers had to decide whether to hold some tickets until tomorrow or release them all to the fans today. They went with the latter option, and the result is a completely sold out One Night Stand and tickets going for upwards of $1,000 on secondary markets already. One thing’s for sure: New York loves house music, and between this spectacle and Avicii New Years Eve, December is going to be one hell of a month.
Update: We’re now told that the official time for sellout is 9 minutes, not 40. Whoa!
Update 2: It looks like you may not be completely out of luck if you haven’t scored your tickets just yet. A message posted on SHM’s Facebook indicates that they are looking at possibly shuffling the stage around to accommodate more seats. There’s also a mention of a potential second show, but there are no promises it would be at MSG as well. Read the full statement after the break.
ok. final word on MSG today. 1. we are trying to change the stage configuration to release a few more tickets 2. we are trying to add a second show but it may well not be MSG 3. there is NO public sale tomorrow Angela Brown…all the tickets went today which is pretty unheard of. More news as it hits. do NOT buy from secondary ticket sellers. Assholes :-)
