Simon Cowell announces plans for ‘X-Factor for DJs,’ leaves us speechless

Simon Cowell x-factor

The X-Factor took America by storm late last year, and now Simon Cowell is looking to apply the same model to the world of DJing. Cowell’s Syco Entertainment company — the same one involved with that little Leona Lewis debacle — has confirmed a live, international contest to “find the world’s greatest DJs.” Cowell himself told Music Week that he’s been working on the show for over a year, and adds that “DJs are the new rock stars.” It’ll be interesting to see how this all goes down when the show finally airs, but this certainly raises more questions than it answers. What kind of music, the general format, and which judges Cowell will bring in are all still TBA, but we’ll certainly keep you posted as we hear about the situation.

    wow. fucking great

i don’t know how to feel about this…i’m not sure if its a good thing.

There are so many music styles, DJ’s can’t be compared. For example; Is David Guetta a better DJ than Richie Hawtin? He’s more popular because he’s more commercial, but there are many people who think Richie Hawtin is better.

Conclusion: It’s a matter of taste, DJ’s can’t be judged

  • Meat

    paris hilton should judge!!!

  • Bonerjamz

    hahaaha this is fucking pathetic…

this wont work. so many reason why it wouldn’t.

    Things will be okay.

I’m absolutely tired of seeing DJs/producers/EDM fans everywhere complaining about this (‘m not saying this post in particular carries a tone of complaint, but I see many comments having one).

Electronic Dance Music is the freshest thing out there, so naturally, the mainstream is going to latch onto it and market it as much as possible. There’s nothing wrong with what Simon doing. So he’s going to hold a contest, have people glued to their TVs over this, and they will proceed to crown the next hot DJ. What does that do for us, the DJs/producers/EDM fans? Popularity. Explosion of interest. Acceptance of dance music on a much broader scale.

I fail to see a problem anywhere with this. It is not going to change what you like and why you like it. I find people think that this is going to bring the big, bad mainstream fans flocking to their events and flaunting every new Guetta and Benassi track they find. Mainstreamers (if that’s even a term, lol) will be mainstreamers. I find that is what gets people worked up the most. How dare someone not be into something as much as I am and talk about it as if they are as devoted and informed? I never understand why individuals care that much about what other people are doing and thinking. Self-absorption? Jealousy? Idiocy?

Sorry for the rant, but I never see this point of the argument mentioned anywhere.
Lucky winner though. That DJ will probably headline some big event in Ibiza or something!

Yes, Richie Hawtin is a better DJ than David Guetta

    umm…..

Honestly I feel better about this concept than the whole X Factor singing bullcrap..

I’m tired of all the arguments in defense of this show that say “It will boost EDMs popularity” EDM doesn’t need a popularity boost. Swedish House Mafia sold out MSG in 9 minutes. Over 200,000 people attended EDC in vegas last year. Coachella’s lineup is over 50% EDM. Calvin Harris has a song on the radio. Skrillex is nominated for grammys (yeah yeah, hate on it, whatever)

The point is, this is hardly as “underground” as a lot of people think it is. so dont say this is great because it will make it known to the masses. Its already known…

I think if this show was ran by the right people it could work. since its being organised by cowell were just gonna get a carbon copy of David Guetta every year. the mainstream dont care for nice productions they just want a “banging tune”. and is this gonna be djs or producers?

  • Kdpowers24

I don’t think they’re looking for the next Guetta, theyre looking for the next Pauly D

  • avicii

this is mostly for scratchers cause really the only thing djs do in their shows is the transition witch is mostly confused with the mix big name djs mostly do transitions but their transitions are spot on like at the best moment possible so there is a form o mix in there because you need to mix the songs perfectly but yeah if this goes on it would be pretty pathetic

  • andy

speaking of Pauly D, I seriously hope he is not a judge…..

  • Sd

Please don’t ruin the dj title with the show.
