Cedric Gervais – Molly (Original Mix)

Cedric-Gervais-Molly-video

Cedric Gervais’ track “Molly” has received no shortage of attention, but you can finally purchase it on Beatport starting today. In case you’ve been completely removed from the music scene for the past month or so, between the lyrics, the video, and that seemingly innocent question asked by Madonna at Ultra, the track wreaks of controversy. However, despite its questionable subject matter, we can’t deny that the track is catchy and unique. The computer-generated vocals and hard-hitting rubber band-style sound pairs nicely with perfectly timed drum lines, and that slow, sweeping build. The novelty of the track will probably wear off pretty quickly, but something tells us we’ll still be hearing it quite a bit this summer. While Cedric Gervais certainly crossed the line in almost every regard surrounding the tune, we have to give him and his team credit: he got us — and most of the music industry — talking.

Shit, cheaply produced track lacking any shred of musicality or proper composition, instead relying on an exploitative and intentionally controversial message that is so obvious it’s insulting. This is no “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, this is a lazy, bandwagoning song that sends out every wrong message conceivable about our genre, and for that reason should receive absolutely zero publicity. Unfortunately, however, people will lap it up due to its easily accesible bass-line and appeal to “Molly” fanboy hipsters, who will probably view it as seriously cool, because it’s sooo “risqué”.

Thank you.  Just listened to this on BP… horrible track indeed.  The subject matter isn’t done tastefully, and is overt in the “I only have a good time because I’m on drugs” mentality that is so pervasive in the media coverage of the scene.

The synths feel really lazy in the track too.  Just growling nonsense and repetitive build structures that I’ve grown far too used to.

Another track to pass on and find some gems by digging into the deeper catalog on Beatport.

Go forth and dig my friend, there is nothing to be gained with this horrendously lazy, overly commercial track. Plenty of better music elsewhere that doesn’t play up to the hey-look-at-me-I-love-dance-music-so-I-must-be-off-my-tits-on-pills stereotype.
