One of our favorite tracks from Kaskade’s Fire & Ice was “Lick It,” his collaboration with Skrillex. Aside from the sheer shock value of these two incredibly different artists working together, the resulting track turned out to be one hell of a disco-glitchy groove. There was a lot going on in the original, between Kaskade’s bouncy bassline, big build-ups, and Skrillex’s wobbly touches; each of the three remixes released today plays on different elements from “Lick It,” making for a great remix package that has something for every kind of dance fan. Check out the Alex Kenji, Normay Doray, and Datsik remixes past the jump.
Update: The official video for the original mix is also out today. Check it out below!
Kaskade & Skrillex – Lick It (Alex Kenji Remix)
Want pure house, without the wobble? Alex Kenji’s remix removes virtually any traces of Skrillex from the track, stretching “Lick It” out into a loungey, sexy track.
Kaskade & Skrillex – Lick It (Norman Doray Remix)
Normay Doray’s take on “Lick It” sounds a lot like what we’d imagine Kaskade might do to remix the track: keep the lush piano elements, and add a new progressive house melody. Needless to say, it works. Doray’s well-placed claps build huge anticipation for the drop, which makes this remix a no-brainer for big clubs and festivals this summer.
Kaskade & Skrillex – Lick It (Datsik Remix)
If you were hoping for a Skrillex remix to “Lick It,” Datsik’s take on the track will be a welcome substitute. It’s dirty, sexy dubstep that subtly integrates elements of the original, but could very easily be its own track. Preserving Kaskade and Skrillex’s original bridge is a nice touch that breaks up the bass a bit.
The “Lick It” remix package has been expertly edited, as each remix sounds completely dissimilar from the last. And, even better, each one plays on different parts of the original track, not only catering to different strains of dance fans but reminding us just how great the original was. Pick up these reworks and an extended mix of “Lick It” on Ultra Records.
