Calling all producers: Dancing Astronaut’s First-Ever Demo Competition!

Axis-Show-Art

We at Dancing Astronaut can recognize that one of the only things better than enjoying dance music is creating it yourselves. To recognize the countless aspiring producers and remixers who have reached out to us, we have decided to host our first-ever demo competition.

Keep reading to find out how you can have your original submission featured alongside tracks from some of the biggest names in electronic music!

UPDATE: After much discussion we have agreed with many of our readers that the contest winner should not be determined solely by number of Facebook likes. While Facebook likes will still be used to determine finalists, a committee of Dancing Astronaut staff will select a winner based on originality, potential and production quality.

First things first: This is open to ORIGINAL TRACKS & REMIXES ONLY. Bootlegs, mashups, and mixes will not be considered.

How to enter:

  1. Follow us on Soundcloud.
  2. Submit your original track/remix to our Soundcloud dropbox.
  3. Go to Dancing Astronaut’s Facebook Page.
  4. Under the “DA Demo Competition” Wall Post, comment with the name of your track & why you think you should win.
  5. Share the post with your friends and ask them to vote by Liking your original Comment.

We will check back at the end of this week to see which track has the most votes. Contest ends Sunday 8/12, 12PM EST.

The winning track will be featured on the next edition of Dancing Astronaut’s Axis!

Important: Submissions from producers who do not follow all steps outlined in the submission process above will be disqualified. Mashups & Bootlegs will also not be considered.

  1. HLM says:

Just submitted my remix, I don’t see the wall post though.

  2. Ronald says:

Yeah, don’t see a wall post. Also, is the “winner” the one who has the most likes on his post or is there some sort of actual judging as to whether the track is any good or not lol. Popularity contests aren’t usually a good indicator of quality.

  3. 7Severyn says:

So tired of the “Who ever has the most votes wins” game… you guys want attention whores who win popularity contests to help your social media game… not talented producers.

  4. steve says:

Yeah where is the wall post?

  5. Max Niu says:

Hi guys, our site was down for a few crucial minutes before we could publish to FB. The Wall post is there now: https://www.facebook.com/dancingastronaut/posts/449281741769104

  6. nico says:

So this is just a popularity contest on your facebook wall?

  7. guest says:

This is so ridiculous! At least upload the tracks on Mixcloud so people can ostensibly vote on the music. The Dancing Astronaut staff has turned into a bunch of preening hypocrites.

  8. qwerty says:

Lol voting involved. This means spammers will win. Bad idea

  9. John Coffey says:

What if you don’t have a facebook?

  10. M. Freedom says:

Aaaaaand there’s that one for Dancing Astronaut. Sure losing a lot of fans after this one :/ how disappointing…

  11. emdelato says:

Can we submit more than one track?

  12. emdelato says:

Wait nevermind, this looks like a voting only thing. Thought the staff was actually going to LISTEN to the songs instead of LOOKING at the meaningless facebook stats

  13. Jason Risk says:

I submitted an entry but will probably remove it. So basically the largest production amature who spends the most time on facebook wins? Lame as hell popularity contest to be honest. I thought the whole point in blogs was to help promote / boost an unknown / upcoming artists profile. To help an Artist reach a wider audience than they can do directly themselves.
Promoting someone with an already massive fan base or someone who spends 16 hours a day spamming a facebook link to all their friends seems kind of pointless. I’d much rather spend my time creating more original material to later one day get signed by a record label instead of being an annoying spamming amature. Cheers for the pointless opportunity. And Cheers for never replying to E-MAILS :)

  14. jp says:

this judging criteria is just going to turn away talented producers. you honestly think the internet herd is going to sift through and listen to every production and THEN choose the one they like? the chances that someone would vote for someone who’s not their buddy is slim to none. DA, as experienced listeners, the sifting is YOUR JOB. change this, or enjoy that mediocre track that you have to put in your Axis mix

  15. Colin says:

Although I believe the voting method should be changed (preferably done by the staff at DA, instead), I think you guys should do more of these contests. It’s a great opportunity for lesser known/young producers to get a look in their direction. Perhaps consider making this a weekly thing? Or even consider taking the time to sift through e-mails and publish a weekly ‘Best Of’ from unknown/up-and-coming producers.

Great idea guys, just needs a little bit of work!

  16. Terrorishhh says:

submitted my track “Scream (Original Mix)” check it out! I hope you like it

  17. Joshua Bull says:

    lol so many upset commenters

  18. The winner is the one with the most likes?…..hmmmm…..

  19. afonsoamaral says:

As 7Severyn said , this is a TALENT contest , not a POPULARITY contest, so guys , please take off that facebook likes shit . Its worthless, and you ( Dancing Astronaut ) will be loosing your time. Btw, keep up your awesome page !

  20. Def says:

Hey guys, I’m a pretty good producer but I don’t have any friends. Will you still listen to my submission?

  21. you guys should have a monthly competition so you keep up to date with new and up and coming artists/producers/DJ’s
