Laidback Luke is the latest DJ to weigh in on the current state of the dance music scene, and in an interview with InTheMix he gives a very honest account of his take on things. Luke says that “real DJing is about anticipating the moment, the location and the crowd,” before adding that “playing the same set would be impossible for me.” One of the most technical players on the scene for as long as we can remember, he laments the fact that most of the DJs on the festival circuit these days are known mainly for their productions, and says that “they’re essentially not very skilled.”
“To me, what real DJing is about is anticipating the moment, the location and the crowd. Playing the same set would be impossible for me. For me, DJing is about improvisation in the moment.” – Laidback Luke
He also says that while other DJs are “comfortable… doing the same sets over and over again,” for him, “DJing is about improvisation in the moment.” The full interview should be posted on InTheMix soon, but check out the snippet on their website linked below.
