Calvin Harris’s “Sweet Nothing,” led by the blissful vocal accompaniment of Florence Welch, has quickly become one of the most empowering tracks of the year. While a Tiësto remix was first unveiled, Annie Mac’s preview of Diplo and Grandtheft‘s remix quickly stole the spotlight, consuming the blogosphere in its wake. A month after its initial leak, Diplo and Grandtheft’s adept trap remix of “Sweet Nothing” has been released. Boasting the emblematic hi-hat and snare rolls of trap, Diplo and Grandtheft’s remix is, at first glance, very prototypical of the burgeoning genre. However, savvy sampling of Florence’s evocative vocals and a return to the original’s sedative melody elevate this remix to more than a standard rendition. This is trap at its finest.
