While we anxiously await the next new originals from both Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner, the duo is back, in a way, this week with their remix package of last fall’s “Channel 42.” Though Pete Tong premiered Nom De Strip’s dance floor version of the tune on last week’s Essential Selection, mau5trap opted to eschew the more recognizable tune, officially releasing remixes from GTA and Eeekko alongside a reissue of the original.
While the original is a perfect blend of Deadmau5’s chord play and Wolfgang’s technicality, the remixes seem to look to the original more for inspiration than for actual parts, resulting in a package of three completely different songs. To hear electronic’s favorite animals like you’ve never heard them before, listen below.
Miami’s genre-defying GTA went with a frenzied intro, kept the first few chords but went to town on the breakdown before throwing in progressive house-sized build after build. While the original tones peep through at times, beyond BPM the remix shares little in common with its forebearer.

Eekkoo’s remix (and debut Beatport listing) similarly takes the track into uncharted territory, this time to tech house. The track opens with a pulsing tone and closes with a pulsing tone, only briefly breaking to let in a Wolfgang tone progression or recognizable snippet before swallowing them in hypnotic techno beats.
