Dirtybird’s mysterious Friend Within releases ‘The Game’ EP
Who doesn’t love a good mystery? Always a gang of jokesters, the Dirtybird crew has been teasing fans with the release of The Game EP from the veiled producer Friend Within. If I was a betting woman, I would guess Friend Within might just mean this is a new moniker for someone already within the label’s inner circle. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Regardless of the identity of this cryptic figure, the production on this EP is as strong as ever. The title track is a dance floor filler–complete with shuffling percussion and a wide variety of perky instrumental tricks exposed as you make your way through the track. Track two, “The Hollow,” employs that garage influence in only the best of ways, complete with soaring fade-ins, quirky vocal samples, and a bassline big enough for even the nastiest Dirtybird dancefloor.
