Up Close with Krewella at SiriusXM

Bringing a heavier sound to its rotation, SiriusXM’s Electric Aquarium series featured the stage-stomping Krewella trio. On a cold Wednesday night, Krewella recounted stories of their meteoric rise in 2012. Much like the footage caught in their behind the scenesĀ documentary series, Rain Man, Jahan, and Yasmine recapped their year from no bookings on New Year’s Eve to their current frenetic touring lifestyle. Yasmine also revealed tidbits about their upcoming LP, which promises to be full of surprises with many collaborations and over 60 songs recorded.

After the interview, the Krew got to work on the decks, which were too small for all three members. The girls laid down a wobble-infused set that kept the crowd moshing from start to finish. From Diplo’s dubstep anthem “Express Yourself” to Excision’s “Underground,” the set kept the bass thumping and the audience jumping. They sprinked in their hits like “One Minute” and “Feel Me,” as well as a few unreleased IDs.

Before leaving I caught Rain Man, who hinted at even bigger things coming for the group in 2013. “Come to our Ultra performance, we are on the live stage for a reason,” he hinted. With live vocals from Yasmine and Jahan from recent performances, Krew looks to bigger heights on bigger stages, and this continual drive to reinvent themselves is refreshing, even in a music genre that has been deemed the most innovative of them all.
