Back in 1995, when Armin Van Burren was only 19-years-old and still a law student at Leiden University in the Netherlands, he released his breakout single “Blue Fear” on Cyber Records. The track was dubbed “Euro trance” – a term easily recognizable to anyone who grew up in the 90s, and combined winding synths, a high pitched lead and delicate trance undertones. Armin used only an Akai S-2800 sampler without any EQ, and the only effect used was delay. The UK charts devoured the track, kickstarting Armin’s international career… and the rest is history.
