As his dark and ominous alter ego, Shadow Child, Dave Spoon approaches Hot Natured’s latest “Reverse Skydiving” with perilous intent. Shadow Child subtracts the bounce and deepens the mix besetting the track in a heavy fog of plunky percussion and chilling atmosphere. As it begins, Anabel’s vocals tesselate and phase in the background echoing off into infinity as Shadow Child contorts the bass line into swirling gasps of white noise. Stuttering into a percussion-laden drop, atmospheric grime turns into a deep groove as synths shriek through the fog, leaving only Anabel’s vocals recognizable in this hazy interpretation.
