Calvin Harris earns Songwriter of the Year credits at Ivor Novellos, says new music ‘won’t get into the charts’

Before Calvin Harris was working with Rihanna and establishing himself as a household name and pop dance icon, the young Scottish producer was creating quirky and infectious new wave dance hits with his 2007 break-out albumĀ I Created Disco. Speaking with Music Week after taking home the Songwriter of the Year award at this year’s Ivor Novellos, Harris spoke candidly about the new material he was working on;

“I’m doing more dance music that probably won’t get into the charts. I was in the studio yesterday. I just want to make good music; this award is like drawing a line under the past two years where I’ve just been intensely fucking working to try and make singles and hit records.”

It seems that Harris may be returning to his roots as he enters the studio to follow up the highly-laudedĀ 18 Months, and while there is no denying the quality of his recent outings, we’ll always have a soft-spot for “The Girls”-era Calvin Harris.
