Taking the torch from mentor and label head Wolfgang Gartner, Charlie Darker is re-imagining electronic music and painting an all new picture beneath the Kindergarten Records umbrella. This week, however, the Canadian DJ-producer lends his talents to Clockwork and Wynter Gordon at Dim Mak, putting his spin on their “Surge” collaboration. Darker offers familiarity to fans of the original production but injects his own style on a rendition he’s marked his own. Following his own crisp introductory build and the full length vocal hook, Charlie progressively packs in unique layers of sound for a version of “Surge” that’s being offered as a free download.
