After a tragic death, EDM community joins together to #SmileForOscar

It’s no secret that the sense of community among dance music fans is unmatched by any other genre, and this past weekend, after a successful EDC Orlando, our community was once again tested by news of a tragedy immediately following the event’s second day. After a successful and safe weekend in Orlando, one that was attended by over 30,000 dance music faithfuls each night, Oscar Enriquez left the festival grounds and made his way almost a mile away to Rock Lake. It was here that local authorities found the young fan drowned. The details behind Oscar’s death are still unclear, but amidst the mourning the EDM community has banded together in support of Oscar and his family.

Jennifer Forkish, VP of Communications at Insomniac Events, had this to say in response to Oscar’s untimely passing;

We are deeply saddened to learn that Oscar Enriquez, a fan of EDC Orlando, tragically drowned at Rock Lake after leaving the festival grounds Saturday night. We want Oscar’s family and friends to know that we are thinking of them during this tough time, and we hope that the outpouring of love and support they have received from the dance music community comforts them.

Headliners nationwide have already raised over 14,000 dollars in honor of Oscar, true testament to the power and camaraderie of dance music fans. Chad Ochocinco has also shown support by suiting up in Oscar’s place for a local football game.

It is with both great sorrow and overwhelming pride in our community that we ask our loyal fans and dance music faithfuls worldwide to join us in support of the Enriquez family in their time of mourning by supporting the #SmileForOscar fund.
