Musical Freedom strays away from big room, anonymously teases ‘Gecko’
Heads turned when Tiësto announced a deep house extension of his Club Life radio concept. Some were intrigued, others unapologetically skeptical. But having successfully inaugurated the ‘After Hours’ concept, his Musical Freedom imprint departs from its big room getup with the unveiling of an anonymous new house offering. With no formal artist or release date attached, “Gecko” grooves and bops with the hallmarks of a fine underground anthem, all whilst maintaining the premium production quality of the label’s peak time primed discography. With all signs pointing to an industry-wide deep house gold rush, skepticism towards such maneuvers was inevitable. But if the quality and relevant coherence of “Gecko” is to remain, however, this could be the start of an exciting new turn for camp Musical Freedom and the iconic Dutch trailblazer behind it.
