Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ takes the No. 1 position as most streamed song on Spotify

As both March and festival season appear on the horizon, we near the one-year anniversary of Avicii‘s live debut of the folk-electronic infusion album we now know as True. The initial post-show response from fans and Ultra 2013 attendees who were wildly and vocally upset about the renowned producer’s unexpected set made it hard to imagine that less than a year later, Avicii’s innovative use of country-inspired twangs and melodies would hurl the DJ superstar’s album into multiple #1 chart-topping positions and earn more than a handful of record-breaking titles.

His debut single, “Wake Me Up,” has collected yet another success as Spotify announces that Avicii’s standout track has received over 200 million streams, making it the platform’s most-streamed song of all time. After knocking out fellow dance music hits and claiming the #1 position on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic chart for a record 19 weeks in a row in January, “Wake Me Up” has continued to prove its longevity by toppling Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive” on Spotify charts as the most-streamed tune. Billboard shares, “‘Wake Me Up,’ which Spotify estimates is listened to 850,000 times a day on average, also holds the record as the fastest song to reach 100 million streams.”
