If there’s one way to describe Mike Hawkins thus far through his brief tenure as an established producer, it would be persistency. Hawkins hit the ground running since emerging with “Jump” this summer, and, between releases on labels from Spinnin’ to Size, often finds room to give away his music without cost. Not to mention, the volume of music that he’s pushing through his own Megaton imprint has the Hawkins stamp coming at all angles.
But there’s more to Mike Hawkins than persistency. The neophyte latched onto big room and heavy electro, quickly evolving and weaving together a signature sound. All of which is evident in his latest stride, the release of “Soldiers.” The solo production includes the aforementioned insignia and then some, splashing a Middle Eastern twang into the drop that’s relatively more reduced and refined than run-of-the-mil festival hits.
