Diplo joins forces with The Clash and Frank Ocean for ‘Hero’
Already the authority in show sneakers, Converse is putting more than rubber into the term “All-Star.” For the latest installation of the brand’s “Three Artists, One Song” campaign, Diplo and Frank Ocean have joined The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon for the upcoming track “Hero.” Even the most casual of music fans can detect the incongruous nature of the collaborator’s sounds, but with past successes of trios like James Murphy, Gorillaz and Andre 3000, chances are that harmony will be found in the discord. For Mad Decent fans not as familiar with the punk rockers, Diplo nodded to their influence as musical rabble rousers:
“The Clash were always teachers to me, even before I shared a studio with Paul and Mick,” he said in a statement. “Their musical anarchy and constant attitude to disregard rules and forge their own path was inspirational to me. They meant death to genres, music and message above everything. Frank lives by the same creed in being married to his vision and seeing it through at any cost. We had to challenge each other to make something that we hope no one could expect and Converse valued everyone’s artistic freedom to let us shine throughout the past few months to make this thing happen.”
While no teaser has been released, “Hero” will drop on Converse’s Tumblr on Monday.
