With Armin van Buuren‘s first-ever Ultra performance as Gaia just a few weeks away, it was only fitting that the moniker be revived in the studio. “Empire of Hearts” is the latest release for the alter-ego and it’s a track with almost as much history as Gaia itself. Debuted as an ID at the Ziggo Dome during last fall’s Armin Only Intense tour, the tune remained shrouded in mystery until his recent ASOT650 Moscow stop. At a purist-friendly 132 BPM, “Empire of Hearts” follows in the instrumental footsteps of last February’s “Humming The Lights” while adding a dollop of intensity. Ushered in by a central beat, the track builds layer over layer in a dance of veils that reverses and repeats at whim, going from melody to muted reflection to euphoria-raising build and back.
