It’s no secret that the past year has been host to a massive collision between the urban and electronic music worlds. However, rarely is it that we see this collision reach further than the trap genre. HARD mastermind Destructo took to the studio with urban-house native Wax Motif to give YG‘s radio smash, “My N***a,” a club-friendly mix that creates an exciting minimalist house and hip-hop blend. Reworking the track’s main riff, the two producers maintain the original song’s swagger while crafting groove-inducing drum work and implementing aspects of multiple house sub-genres. The two house innovators look past hip-hop’s influence in the big room and add the European flavor necessary to blend these two radically different genres. While little information has been given about the upcoming project, Destructo certainly has the world watching for his upcoming West Coast EP, releasing this spring.
