Alex Metric – Hope EP
The first joint release between Skrillex’s OWSLA and Atlantic Records comes from Alex Metric, who leads with the three-track Hope EP. His BBC-debuted title track jump starts the extended play as a collaboration with Oliver which has both artists making anticipated returns to production. Sampling disco that dates back to the early 1970s, “Hope” breaches a common ground of modern dance between Metric and Oliver’s funky nuances.
In a case of surprising juxtaposition Metric takes a darker, more indie way to “Spiritism,” the EP’s only solo effort. Claiming two-thirds of the release, Oliver assist in its closing, quite differently than their opening. Going out in style on the celebratory, nu-disco “Galaxy,” Alex Metric and Oliver make for a convincing tag team by their second collaboration and the wrap of Hope.
