Coldplay shares surprising collaboration with Avicii, ‘A Sky Full of Stars’

The ever-popular trend of sharing songs off of one’s album before it is even released is more powerful than ever, with Coldplay premiering yet another masterpiece from their sixth studio album, Ghost Stories, due out on May 19th. “A Sky Full of Stars,” the album’s second single, is particularly notable as it involves one of dance music’s biggest players – Tim Bergling, best known as Avicii. The song begins as any traditional Coldplay production would; compassionate strokes of piano keys pair with Chris Martin’s illustrious vocals as subtle, percussive accents enter the scene at the thirty-second mark. While the Swede’s vivacious role in “A Sky Full of Stars” is evident in its cushioned buildup and even softer synths, the song is a flawless example of cutting across genres without robbing the integrity of a band as reputable as Coldplay. Featuring just the right balance of alternative rock embraced with electronic components, the work sets the precedent for all future collaborations in reasserting that less truly is more.
