Red Rocks faces scrutiny with noise complaints from Jefferson County

Red Rocks Amphitheatre, known for its summer concert series in the heart of Red Rocks Park, is now facing heat for “window-rattling” sound levels, just as the venue has commenced its annual concert season.

The Denver Post reports that members of the Morrison town board will convene Friday with at least one Jefferson County commissioner to discuss solutions as to how to manage the heavy bass that electronic music emits from the venue. Those complaining of the noise and trembling bass tones have seemingly never experienced such low-frequency noise in the past, as Morrison Mayor Sean Forey comments, “This is something new and different than anything in the past.” One resident went so far as to compare the noise and ongoing vibrations to Guantanamo Bay.

Toward the end of this week, the town of Morrison will discuss resolutions to scenarios in which “unacceptable sound levels and extended concert hours risk becoming a public or private nuisance.”
