Since entering the radar with breakthrough single “Bringing You Down” and subsequently spearheading house music’s melodic renaissance, Sweden’s Jonas Rathsman has come to stand for far more than just an in-vogue asset to the French Express and its current pull on the industry’s heartstrings. For his fourth single for the label, those cool and calm vibes play with untimely relevance to a sound no longer limited to just one demographic and fast becoming the next generation’s inauguration to house music. Initially spotlighted almost a year ago during Rathsman’s accomplished Boileroom set, “Skepparkrans” soulful samples and scratchy grooves bond to form an infectious and implicitly uplifting landmark in the Scandinavian trailblazers career. On paper, the ability to balance major label remixes with genuinely classy club cuts shouldn’t work, but that juxtaposition is just the sort of magic that makes Jonas Rathsman one of the true renaissance men of European house music here in 2014.
