The Mixmash head honcho and Super You & Me hero is leaving more commercial sounds behind in his latest remix, but creating an accessible version of Alex Metric‘s “Heart Weighs A Ton” all the same. Pitching down Stefan Storm’s vocals and leading with a basement beat followed by the original’s heavy piano, Luke’s edit leads listeners over a crowd-ready build and into a weighted melody flanked by cymbal flicks and glitchy eighth notes. Expressly labeled as “not deep house,” the Laidback Luke remix of “Heart Weighs A Ton” draws eyes to the layer of music that lives between the deep and superficial ends of dance music.
