Aphex Twin claims Kanye ‘tried to get away with not paying’ for Avril 14th sample

Kanye West has been caught red-handed – this time by Aphex Twin – for attempting to plagiarize his 2001 record, “Avril 14th.” According to Richard James, West used his work in “Blame Game,” a song off his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Though he admits that he is unsure whether Kanye’s use of “Avril 14th” was truly a sample, James said with certainty, “[Kanye] tried to fucking rip me off and claim that he’d written it, and they tried to get away with not paying.” Despite being “really helpful” when West’s camp initially sent the song to him, even offering to assist with the proper sampling process, Richard discloses that his team rudely responded, “It’s not yours, it’s ours, and we’re not even asking you any more.”

However, it is important to note that the liner notes for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy acknowledge that “Blame Game” “contains elements of Avril 14th by Richard James,” implying the possibility that West did re-imburse James for his work.
