Diplo reveals Major Lazer cartoon and forthcoming musical projects

The Diplo-lead rasta group often also consisting of buddies Walshy Fire and Jillionaire have taken a liking to the concept of a visual element to accompany an album, but as with all things Mad Decent, the visual element goes far beyond the call of duty. Wesley Pentz recently revealed the plans for a full-blown Major Lazer cartoon to debut on Fox in 2015 in a cover feature about Diplo. Fans of the group will also be happy to know that the cartoon has not stolen any attention away from the music, and the next Major Lazer album is slated to accompany the cartoon at the time of release. In fact, the group is already swimming in new material – amounting to around 30 songs already complete.

Diplo also took the opportunity to confirm a reissue of Florida, his debut studio album. The reissue was initially announced in his Reddit AMA, where he revealed that there will be new tunes in tow with the update. Seeing its return to glory with Ninja Tune, Diplo reflects on the different circumstances that surrounded him when he first released Florida; in 2004, Wes Pentz was still flipping rare vinyls to local collectors and small time producers.

Atop everyone’s mind, despite Diplo’s announcements of both Usher and Madonna collaborations, is his work with Sonny Moore under the Jack U moniker. “Take You There,” the announced first single from the new project, actually began as a beat initially produced for the Usher studio sessions, but instead became a staple in Diplo’s sets. When Skrillex and Diplo linked up with Keisza’s vocal ringing true, the deal was done.
