Diplo celebrates Hip Hop Month with 2 hour mix
On his famed Diplo & Friends radio show, the West Coast producer has brought us brand new music, brand new artists and entertained us throughout the weeks. Diplo & Friends is responsible for introducing us to one of the hottest artists around right now, the Norwegian Kygo, as well as an anthem soundtrack for this year’s World Cup. To celebrate Hip Hop Month, this week’s edition of Diplo & Friends actually doesn’t feature anyone but the man himself. “No friends tonight – no old friends, no new friends,” he quips. “It’s a lonely Diplo mix, all night long.”
This mix is not your typical trap-infused, loud dance-hall setlist. Rather, it’s a blast from the past to commemorate Diplo‘s musical upbringing. “The hip-hop culture is where I came from as a producer,” he explains. With two hours to spare, Blondre 3000 takes us back in time with D.I.T.C, Notorious B.I.G. and Wu Tang Clan, as well as some less mainstream hip-hop tunes. He weaves through smooth, soulful raps, some angrier edits, and songs that’ll simply remind you of “how we chilled” back in ’93.
