John Monkman – Open Frontier (Behling & Simpson Club Dub)
Behling & Simpson have made strong yet sparing leaps and bounds since dropping their namesake EP for Futureboogie back in 2011. The Bristol mob now joins the befitting ranks of Anjunadeep alongside national peer and indie dance protagonist John Monkman, Whose label debut “Open Frontier” inspires a striking first shot for the duo to cast open their vivid house playbook for the late summer swarms.
In spite of its techier backdrop, Behling & Simpson’s deep mix is the perfect middle ground between the progressive and the credible house corture that has dominated two somewhat opposing sides of the industry coin throughout 2014. Hypnotic melodic progressions and tempered grooves are the crux of what lifts the Lizz Cass-fronted indie dance original into a vivid and immediately captivating reimagining. This is yet another illuminating moment that reminds us that for all the exposure now facing the wider electronic dance community, some of Europe’s most talented and aurally stimulating players are still being unearthed on a daily basis.
