Rusko – ! Volume 2

Unfair as it may be, many people still hear “Rusko” and immediately think of “Pro Nails,” “Cockney Thug,” and “Hold On.” As important as those tracks were, Rusko long ago proved himself adept at producing a wide range of styles. Rarely has his versatility been as apparent as on his latest release, ! Volume 2. “I Wanna Mingle” and “Slappy Pappy” are simultaneously beautiful and energizing, “Lytah” and “Fusion Jam” are both frantic and melodic, and EP bookends “Saxophone Stomp” and “Vaminos” are more than crunchy enough to appease fans craving some of that seminal “Pro Nails” aggression. And unsurprisingly, they’re all thoroughly enjoyable.
