Axwell’s remix of “Tokyo By Night” spent three years locked away, teased only in the form of live previews around the globe. Now almost five months after the Axtone release garnered critical acclaim, the Australian star behind the original has given it away. While the synths and structure remain similar to Axwell’s rendition, the stretched out chords combine to create an entire different melody. Karin Park’s vocals also appear in the long-awaited original mix, buoyed by a more aggressive buildup than that found on the previous release.
First previewed back in 2011 as a completely different version than both Axwell’s remix and this free download, “Tokyo By Night” evolved into one of the genre’s biggest mysteries. With the initially previewed version still making the rounds as Hook N Sling appeases fans with this modern marvel, the Australian heavyweight has kept his promise with an original mix that stands tall alongside its earlier forms.
