RL Grime links up with Big Sean for ‘Kingpin’
RL Grime is gearing up to deliver one of the most highly anticipated full-length records of the year. With anticipation for Void at an all-time high, trickling singles from the album are tiding over hungry trap-etites. The latest material to reach the wire comes as genre-bridging collaboration with the help of G.O.O.D. Music recruit Big Sean. Henry Steinway’s RL Grime project was born with the intention of riding the divide between hip-hop and dance music, and his latest, “Kingpin,” hits the mark perfectly.
“Kingpin” is just another tantalizing taste of what to expect from Void, as it opens up with a wailing call to attention and pounding drum kicks. A moody bass line carries Big Sean’s isolated vocals across two fierce verses as he swiftly switches gears following up his Calvin Harris collaboration. With aggressive drum layers to accompany the track’s catchy hook, Big Sean’s lyrical knockouts ride over Grime’s cold beat as a dark harbinger for the forthcoming album.
