Claude VonStroke & Green Velvet are taking Get Real to the next level

When Get Real was first announced, it was unclear what the mega collaboration between Claude VonStroke and Green Velvet would entail. Aside from a short three-date tour, there was little information surrounding the finer details of the new partnership. Thankfully, Claude VonsStroke has spared us some insight into the project.

On December 27 at Exchange LA, the two house and techno giants formally united their careers for the official debut of Get Real. On paper, the collaboration makes sense — both artists grew up in the Mid-West and are regarded as veterans in the scene — yet in reality, the partnership came about by chance: “When it started we just played together by accident and it was magic,” Claude VonStroke told us.

Bringing together the dirtybird leader’s patented brand of booty tech with Green Velvet’s penchant for acid house and techno, Get Real are a treat behind the decks. In many ways, it’s the antithesis of our idea of superduos. There’s no gimmick to it, no flashiness or bravado — at the end of the day, it’s just two DJs showing off their seasoned taste in music. VonStroke summed up their approach: “Nobody is trying to steal the spotlight or take over the project which isn’t always the case in a duo. We each represent our style but we make a new style by working together.”

Since the initial announcement, the real question on everyone’s mind has been if the two are collaborating on some tracks together. Fortunately, VonStroke confirmed the speculation: “We are working on some music as well, hopefully coming soon.”

While the duo’s initial performances may have served as a trial run, this looks to be only the beginning for Get Real: “The response has been amazing,” Claude VonStroke said. “We will continue to Get Real for sure.”
