Capital Cities released “Safe and Sound” in early 2011, but it wasn’t until late 2013 that the track began getting the mainstream recognition it so obviously deserved. Now one year removed from the whirlwind success of that unforgettable song, co-frontman Ryan Merchant and trumpeter Spencer Ludwig are launching a new project called HISTORY. On their self-titled debut single, the duo teams up with the incomparable RAC, who was featured on the “Safe and Sound” remix EP. Though Merchant’s vocals, Ludwig’s brass, and RAC’s polished production will all sound instantly familiar to any indie pop fan, the combination of the three is something entirely special and new. It’s a brilliant start to what’s sure to be an amazing band; maybe this time it won’t take pop radio two years to catch up.
