Ultra Music Festival co-founder, Alex Omes, dead at age 43

Alex Omes, co-founder of Ultra Music Festival, has reportedly died at the age of 43.

News broke early this morning via social media that the Miami Nightlife icon had passed away but no information on the cause of death has been made available. Omes was instrumental in the creation of Ultra alongside former partner Russell Faibisch in 1999, a relationship that lasted until 2010 when disagreements cause the pair to part ways.

After taking his leave from the festival brand, Omes was responsible for the first run of Swedish House Mafia shows in Miami in 2011 — performances that would later be credited with the trio’s meteoric rise.

Ultra Music Festival released this official statement:

“The organizers of Ultra Music Festival extend their deepest condolences to the family of Alex Omes and are saddened by the news of his passing.  We will continue to remember and celebrate Alex for his love, passion and contributions to the Electronic Dance Music community.”
