Techno’s prized Awakenings is coming to the United States for the first time, heads to New York City for Electric Zoo
Awakenings is one of the globe’s leading brands in live techno, and now the long-time Dutch festival is making its United States debut. Partnering with Sunday School, Awakenings will hit North America for the first time at New York City’s Electric Zoo.
The news comes on the heels of another similar shift towards embracing the darker, deeper side of dance music, with Ultra Music Festival wrapping up its against-the-grain Resistance stage. For Electric Zoo, the welcoming of Awakenings strengthens its underground presence already anchored by its annual Sunday School stage.
Awakenings founder Rocco Veenboer spoke on the move to North America and first stop in New York City, where it is set to occupy Randall’s Island for two of Zoo’s three days:
“We are very excited about being in New York City for Electric Zoo. The look and feel of the stage will be 100 percent Awakenings. Expect some familiar Awakenings names on the lineup. The Friday will have a stronger techno sound and the Saturday will be more tech house.”
