Meet the guy who spent billions of someone else’s money on bottle service
Meet Jho Low, the foreign financier whose taste for the VIP nightlife experience turned him into a staple in the upper echelon of Las Vegas and New York’s bustling socialite scene. From partying with Paris Hilton to buying bottles for everyone in the club, Jho Low’s extravagant spending became somewhat of an urban legend in nightlife circles. The Malaysian businessman’s stops often included LAVO, Marquee, and TAO in Las Vegas and Pink Elephant and 1OAK in New York City, where he would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in an evening. His spending didn’t go unnoticed, sparking speculation and an eventual investigation into what the Malaysian party animal did to make his billions.
The curtain has finally been lifted by www.sarawakreport.org and London Sunday Times, following an in-depth investigation into Malaysia’s 1MDB financial scandal. The documents — some dating back to 2009 — are damning for the billionaire tycoon. Despite denials, thousands of pieces of evidence have been uncovered that link Low to a trail of billions fraudulently siphoned out of 1MDB. Using a shell company, PetroSaudi International, a Swiss bank account, and close ties with the Malaysian prime minister, Jho Low walked away with upward of $700 million. The investigation has likely just scratched the surface of the billions fraudulently stolen by Jho Low and his business associates but one thing’s for certain, the “world’s biggest bottle service spender ever” finally has to pay his tab.
