Miami Music Week 2015: 25 Parties to Catch This Year

It is undeniable that Miami Music Week is by far one of the most significant happenings throughout dance music’s humming calendar. These are the seven exalted days that set the tone for the remainder of the year; those whose names diffuse through the internet and word of mouth will prevail, whereas artists whose presence goes relatively unnoticed will often find success more difficult to attain.

Each year, the prodigious outpouring of pool parties and showcases forces fans to curate their agendas based upon lineups and what their budgets will allow. Here, we break down the 25 must-see parties to help ease the decision-making process.

Cajual vs. Relief

Green Velvet, Josh Wink, Shiba San, Technasia and Route 94 share one thing in common: a headlining spot during Cajual vs. Relief’s showcase on March 26th. Curtis Jones will make a double appearance under both his Green Velvet and Cajmere aliases as Cajual and its Relief offshoot go head-to-head at this year’s party, presented by Safe and Embrace. A standout among the deep and tech house-themed celebrations, Cajual vs. Relief caters to those looking to withdraw from Miami Music Week’s hustle and bustle.

Disclosure Presents Wild Life

Guy and Howard Lawrence, the two infamous brothers that compose Disclosure, will present not one, but two back-to-back parties at Soho Studios. After witnessing Guy and Justin Martin perform alongside one another while sharing a slice of pizza on Holy Ship!, Miami may be in for a treat as the two re-unite on night one of Wild Life. The party’s second evening will receive support from Kevin Saunderson, Felix Da Housecat, Just Blaze, Claude VonStroke, and Jonas Rathsman, making for one of the week’s more eyebrow-raising lineups.

Who: Night 1: Justin Martin, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, DJ EZ, Carl Craig/ Night 2: Felix Da Housecat, Just Blaze, Claude VonStroke, and Jonas Rathsman

Big Beat & Friends

Manhattan-based Big Beat Records achieved a milestone in January after hosting the all too familiar Friday-night Girls & Boys party at Webster Hall. Big Beat affiliates Knife Party, Cash Cash and Pierce Fulton performed before a swarming NYC crowd, but luckily the Atlantic Records subsidiary will return to Miami to present its annual Big Beat & Friends Pool Party. Galantis, Clean Bandit, Cash Cash and Hercules & Love Affair are just a few of the names that will appear at this year’s pool, but it wouldn’t be too far out of left field if The Chainsmokers, Flux Pavilion or Sick Individuals made special appearances.

Who: Galantis, Clean Bandit, Cash Cash

Fans choosing to skip out on Ultra can instead find themselves in the presence of tastemakers like Adventure Club, The Chainsmokers, Le Youth, Mija, Jack Beats and Destructo.

Papi Gordo & Friends

Carnage is on an unprecedented tear across live electronic music with one of the must in-demand shows that’s been dubbed ASOC and has been backed by what’s been known as Chipotle Gang. Appropriately, Papi Gordo himself gets his own party during Miami Music Week this year. Dubbed Papi Gordo & Friends, Carnage will take over E11EVEN with Chuckie, Nervo, and a slew of still unnamed special guests — but take the term “special” seriously with this event, just knowing the long-list of unexpected collaborators he’s worked with lately.

Treehouse understands the difficulties of picking and choosing, which is why on March 27th it will be hosting not one, but two separate parties. One room will host Black Butter Records affiliates Gorgon City, Kidnap Kid, My Nu Leng and Wayward, while another will feature MK’s Area 10 showcase. Confirmed artists include Lee Foss, Amine Edge & Dance, Beckwith and Dantiez Saunderson. Perhaps most appealing, however, is the Miami debut of Pleasure State (MK, Lee Foss and Annabel Englund).

X Miami

When it comes to Steve Angello, fans’ familiarity with Size Records is arguably much stronger than with his newer imprint, X. Debuted in 2013, X traverses the deep tech world – a departure from Angello’s signature, progressive style. While appearances of Steve’s second persona, Mescal Kid, have been rare, Miami is invited to soak in his darker side up-close and personal at the Delano on March 25th. Meanwhile, X members Trent Cantrelle, Armanda Pena, and Sonny Wharton will provide supporting sounds.
