Wiwek‘s suitably dubbed ‘Jungle Terror’ sound has long been speculated as a prospective remedy to the saturated Dutch sound. Returning to Yellow Claw’s Barong Family imprint for volume two of the namesake EP series, the four-track short-player’s leading lady sets the tone for another welcome shakeup from this next generation talent from The Netherlands. ‘Riot’ is the typically dysfunctional and adrenaline fuelled getup we have come to expect from the fresh faced talent. The leads and kicks sit heavy enough to keep the festival crowds in tow, but behind this flows a tribal undertow that brings bigger energy than any other artist on the beat right now. Wiwek may be swimming against the tides of change, but ‘Riot’ exemplifies where his subtle twist on the big room game could end up fuelling a second wind for the popular sound.
