Check out the newest spot to bring techno back to Detroit
You couldn’t possibly talk about house music without mentioning Detroit. The Motor City has been a critical location in waging techno for decades, dating back to the 80’s. A movement countering dance in cities such as Chicago and New York, Detroit’s distinguished brand of house music carries on today, notably with the annual Movement festival.
Now one of Detroit’s rock venues has been revived for late night dancing and DJ talents. Formerly known as Magic Stick, the 2nd floor of the Majestic is rebranded as Popolux, Midtown’s new space for electronic music.
The club opened this past weekend after undergoing $300,000 renovations including dance-geared upgrades to production areas such as its sound system and stage. Popolux introduced itself to Detroit with DJ Sneak and Derrick Carter, appropriate selections to fit the city’s historic craving for sound.
