Richie Hawtin presents the CNTRL Tour 2015: Individuality & Creativity in Technology-Based Music

“I hope that people walk away from the CNTRL tour with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the individual creativity that each artist & performer puts into their own shows. We hope that some of the participants and fans will be inspired to take their next steps at trying their hands at their own creativity.” – Richie Hawtin

Making its debut in 2012, Richie Hawtin traveled around the eastern part of the continent with his CNTRL: Beyond EDM tour. On the first turn, Hawtin took 18 people on two buses around North America spreading the electronic music gospel to students at college campuses. Recorded on camera and finally released exclusively through Dancing Astronaut, the tour’s debut video features commentary from luminaries including Josh Wink, Loco Dice, and Dantiez Saunderson whose insight into electronic music and its power as an artform are as applicable now as they were in 2012. The never-before-seen footage includes fan testimonials and interviews, as well as, Hawtin himself reflecting on his early days producing in Detroit and the history of the underground scene. The 30-minute recap is a must see for any Hawtin fan toying with the idea of attending one of these ground-breaking events.

Returning now for its second year, the groundbreaking model provides daytime lectures on music and technology followed by a night of performances to bring the day’s education full circle. The cross section of music production, education, and performance, Hawtin’s tour returns in 2015 with more stops than ever before. A college specific tour, Hawtin and his motley band of electronic musicians kick things off at Berklee College in Boston on April 15th. From there the experience will touch down in eight major college markets across North America including Pennsylvania, New York, Toronto, Montreal, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The lineup revolves based on the city, but expect Hawtin to be joined by the best and the brightest in IDM including Grimes, Matador, Dubfire, Victor Calderone and many more. Ean Golden of DJ TechTools will be this year’s seminar moderator while Guitar Center and Moog will run a five-hour technology marketplace with exclusive student discounts from the tour’s sponsors. The list of supporting companies supporting CNTRL in 2015 has expanded and includes: AIAIAI, Beatport, DJ Techtools, Funktion One, Little Bits, Livid, Pioneer, Roland, Splice, Subpac, and Native Instruments.
