SHADED – Ripped Kick EP
SCI+TEC protege SHADED is beloved for a variety of reasons, from his spellbinding onstage personality to his dark and space-y brand of techno. Last year he was named “The One To Watch” by Mixmag after a knockout performance at Barrakud, and his latest EP is proof that the title was well-deserved. Ripped Kick is a four-track EP that serves as a dancefloor-centric journey through throttling bass, glitchy sounds and SHADED’s trademark self-recorded vox effects. The title track is a fierce and upbeat number with a simple yet irresistible vocal. It’s succeeded by “Sandy Candy,” a dizzying ride that moves up and down on an intense undulating groove. “Take Me Down,” on the other hand, places the focus on rhythm and breaks while keeping things just weird enough with eerie robotic vocals. Finally, SHADED strips things down with “Threewayd,” creating a sexy and crisp sound using nothing but the bare essentials of rhythm.
