Ultra Records teams up with Yahoo Live and Simon Cowell for ‘Ultimate DJ’

Simon Cowell’s Ultimate DJ competition has earned additional credibility with the announcement that Ultra Records would be throwing its hat in the ring as an official partner of the Yahoo Live and Syco Entertainment talent contest. Similar to Tiesto’s recent DJ competition; the Ultimate DJ concept plans to enlist the hottest new DJ talent from around the world to compete in a live global competition. The show will be aired via Yahoo Live and all voting will be handled via Tumblr. The winning contestant will be crowned ‘Ultimate DJ’ and earn his or herself a slot on a major electronic music festival as well as a contract with Ultra Records and Sony Music.

Simon Cowell said, “I have always been excited to be involved in a show where you have the chance to discover a star. And to do that, I know from experience you need great partners and the rest will follow. We’re excited to be partnering with Patrick Moxey of Ultra Records and Hamish Hamilton of Done and Dusted to bring this series to Yahoo.”

Official air times have not yet been announced, but after numerous hiccups and some vocal backlash from top tier DJs, the ‘Ultimate DJ’ competition is finally happening.

Editor’s Note: We initially reported that Steve Aoki would be judging the event. That is not the case, he was only at the press conference to support the announcement.
