Yellow Claw didn’t just replicate the heat of bass favoring music found on US shores, they owned its European expansion. Having held two consecutive weekends at Coachella and previously inaugurated the Barong Family imprint with a string of gritty releases, all signs pointed to Yellow Claw striking a unique balance of live prowess and unapologetic energy for the trap world.

In the wake of major label acceptance and well-deserved surge in popularity, the plot somewhat thins for their latest original offering. “Run Away” is a total U-turn on the trio’s hard-hitting Euro trap stylings, opting for a low key and notably motionless blend of soft house beats and sparing triplets that, whilst beautiful in its own way, spits on the unapologetic identity Yellow Claw worked so hard to build. Less ‘Blood For Mercy,’ more ‘Panda to the Masses,” there is no doubt that we should support artists with the balls to step outside of their comfort zones, but one has to question what the end goal was with this docile installment from the euro trap kings who land notably short of their throne this time around.
