Hannah Wants delivers a killer Essential Mix debut

Anyone who has seen Hannah Wants live can attest to the fact that the Birmingham-born artist is not your average DJ. A self-taught master of mixing, she’s come to be a seminal force in the UK bass or ‘bass house’ movement. Hannah’s riveting performances have caught the attention of nearly every tastemaker across the board, with Pete Tong recently giving her a nod with BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix duties.

As you’d expect from such an acclaimed DJ, Wants took her time to carefully prepare her debut on the legendary radio show: “I spent days searching for the beats to include in this mix,” she noted. The set spans a bit of everything, from unreleased house gems from Mak & Pasteman and Dusky, to iconic tracks like “Man With the Red Face” and Cirez D’s “On Off” — all of course mixed in immaculate fashion. Hannah also includes various new cuts from herself, including “Hidden Love” and “Just.”

Hannah told Radio 1:

“Mixtapes have always been a massive part of me as an artist. When I make a mixtape you get the whole of me. For me it’s about going on a journey… exploring music, the tiny details, the intricate mixing. I spent days searching for the beats to include in this mix. It was important for me to use a wide range of music from new and unheard exclusives, current tracks, older tracks, as well as some classics that both influenced me through the years. This Essential Mix is a full representation of my sound and style at this time in my career and was an absolute honour to make, thank you!” Hannah Wants, May 2015.er and was an absolute honour to make, thank you!” Hannah Wants, May 2015.
