Skrillex’s set from Sónar Barcelona will be the best 80 minutes of your day
It didn’t take long for Sonny to come back to Spain and reclaim Sónar Festival. Since headlining the Barcelona-based event back in 2013, in a rare Skrillex appearance during the year Dog Blood took over, Skrillex has been around the world and back again, twice. And between his headlining slot and his return to the festival this past weekend, Skrillex has taken his live show to new heights, and he made sure the packed crowd of galvanized fans was well aware. With a never-ending touring schedule, unparalleled by many other performers in the industry, the Recess producer manages to make every set he plays feel like a kick in the throat, Sónar Festival this past weekend being no exception.
Cruising between lacerating bounce-step records and bulldozing dubstep cuts, Skrill played all the roof raisers, threw in a couple of wildcard jams, and tied it all together with some classics. Warming a dark stage with his highly anticipated remix of GTA’s “Red Lips,” the set was a punishing dose of relentless energy from start to finish, and for all of us who couldn’t make the journey to Barcelona, the set was filmed for our continued viewing pleasure.
